The Sila National Park was established by Decree of the President of the republic on 14 November 2002. It includes the territories already ricedenti in "historic" National Park of Calabria (1968) which ceases to exist.

Protect areas of special interest ambientle, Sila Piccola, Sila Grande and Sila Greca, for a total of 73.695 acres in 21 municipalities, provinces and 3 6 mountain communities of the Calabria region. Encourages the development of eco-friendly ski area, a crossroads of Mediterranean history, art and culture over the centuries. The headquarters of the Sila National Park is located in the locality Lorica.
